MEGA WAVE PTO project advances: Highlights from the 2nd General Assembly meeting
The MEGA WAVE PTO consortium convened for its 2nd Annual General Assembly Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, hosted by project coordinator WavEC. This meeting brought together partners to review progress, discuss challenges, and outline the next steps in developing the innovative modular all-electric power take-off (PTO) system for wave energy conversion.
Key Highlights:
Technical progress: The team reviewed advancements in the C-GEN modular PTO design, including refinements in magnetic gearing, generator efficiency, and system scalability. These developments will enhance performance, durability, and ease of integration into wave energy devices.
Testing & validation plans: Discussions focused on upcoming laboratory and open-sea testing to validate system efficiency and durability under real-world conditions.
Collaborations & industry engagement: The meeting highlighted new opportunities for engagement with industry stakeholders, policymakers, and funding bodies to drive commercial adoption.
Next steps: The project is now gearing up for its next phase of prototype testing, which will bring the MEGA WAVE PTO system closer to market readiness.
By addressing key challenges in wave energy technology, MEGA WAVE PTO continues accelerating the commercialisation of wave energy across Europe, contributing to the EU’s clean energy transition.
